1. Does anybody else remember when it was the GOP that urged a 'strong' dollar?

3. $1.00 = $0.72.5. Is that right?
Then I have $39.15 in my wallet. Silly me, I thought I had $54.00.

4. depends on the measurement
You only have $54.00 in US federal reserve notes.

Measure it against a basket of currencies and you have A LOT LESS than you think.

Oh, yeah, you can also measure it against a basket of commodities and whoops, there goes that $54.00 when you go to fuel up your gas tank.

6. as a 33 yr flight crew who has flown to Europe most of my adult life..
i have never ever ever seen it this bad...

The best it ever was..Under Clinton! then our money was worth a shit load..we could buy anything..now..we can hardly afford to eat abroad.

My family was in London for Thanksgiving with friends..My husband and friends Husband went intoa mens shop..and at the door..a sales clerk told them..For Americans our ties start at $500.00..in your money..

The cabbies were apologizing to us and telling us they were so sorry for us!!..but they said they love coming to the states now..they are rich here..the freaking cabbies!!!

I am in Fla the only people buying property ..europeans..at fireside sales !!

I am going to Paris in 3 weeks..I won't be doing shopping for the first time in 35 years..i used to go over with a flight attend friend shopping in Paris 10 times a year during the Clinton years!!

not much shopping since little lord pissy pants was annointed.

Last time i saw close to parity in Canada was approx 1973 i think..in fact Canadian money might have been slightly more..if i remember correctly( long time ago..it was somewhere in that time i think..don't hold me to this memory though!!..i think it was around the gas crunch time..72-73 give or take)

7. Well to be fair, London taxi drivers make good money at all times
It's a job many want because it pays so well, but few can pass the oral and driving exams for certification, they're that comprehensive. (Not unlike the tests for a regular UK driver's license; it's not unusual to fail the first and second time you take them. As a result, Brits are EXCELLENT drivers compared to here!)

But yes, Europe is too expensive now for us lowly Americans. Thanks to what the Repubs have done to the dollar only the wealthy can afford to vacation there.
