So I went to get the groceries |
|
and indeed it is becoming incredible
4.10 for a gallon of gas at base (I topped off)
And then it is only two of us but I paid close to 150 for milk, meat, veggies, fruit and other essentials.
Mind you I used to pay half of that for a week of groceries... and I know I could pay sixty or so if I decided to stop buying things like veggies and fruit. Granted, today I got things I usually don't get, liked some canned goods, which were needed, but I am thinking, our inflation is reaching 10% a month, by my own observations. This could match with the rise of energy costs, and this is at the PX, where they TRY very hard to keep costs down.
Of course, due to the cost of gas I only drive Mondays, or if absolutely needed during the rest of the week. I ride a bike to nearby coffee shops these days if I need to get out of the house.
We are facing a real nasty crisis... and I fear we may be facing a depression now.
By the way folks, FOREIGN press is now speaking of the double digit recession in the US... (THe observer last night), but don't expect to see any of these real nasty news anywhere in your local paper.
Of course, since I went into a military base, I removed my Obama magnet... and now it is back on. Mostly politics is supposed to stay outside the wire,

1. People are going to find themselves eating far lower on the food chain |
|
in the coming years, which is how I coped with poverty. Instead of meat or fish, I ate beans and grains. Instead of tropical fruits and fruits out of season, I ate sprouts and root veggies.
I stayed as healthy as I ever am.
It's been suggested that the intake of meat should be limited to half a pound per week per person. That's about what people are going to find themselves able to afford by the time this is over, and that's if they don't fall into destitution.

3. Well I have to eat more of the higher in the food chain |
|
to stay healthy... and beans and rice can be a problem for me... (due to medical reasons)
But hey, since I am riding the bike I should be able to
And yes, this will help solve some of our obesity crisis, look on the bright side

For a family of five I'm paying an average of $250 a week for groceries and 99% of that is fresh meat, veggies, fruit, cereal and critter food. I did find an interesting thing though.
In Texas we have Tom Thumb grocers and Albertsons and Kroger's (predominantly in Dallas) and for nearly the identical shopping cart I pay almost 30% more at Tom Thumb. A bag of pistachios for 2.49 vs. 9.99 is what got me to say ciao fuckers! to Tom Thumb here.
Believe it or not I was getting miles for groceries, so I can fly everyone to frakking Mars first class by now. Of course I could just do that with the cash money I save and not worry about blackouts and standby and getting the 36 month flight with no reclining seat.

I miss the commissary. We're too damn far from Ft. Worth here, plus my other half holds that ID card now. He's beautiful and smart but he can't cook, which is only outdone by his lack of grocery acquisition skills.
If he was on Heroes with his stuperpower the bad guys would always try to get him into a kitchen and then run like hell for their own safety. I'm telling you, flaming toasters, flaming cats, flaming shish-kabobs, and if batman took a batshit in the kitchen that would be flaming too.
Oh my god I am so dead if he reads this.

7. It's funny how inflation numbers remain low when you ignore fuel and food. |
