Do you want to save 50% or MORE on your monthly grocery bill???
Angel Food Ministries is an excellent program that can help anyone save on their monthly grocery bill.

Here is their July $30 food package:

40 oz.
Marie Callender’s® Family Crock Pot Dinner (Meat Included)
1.5 lb.
Boneless Pork Filet
5 lb.
Breaded Chicken Chunks
1.5 lb.
Meaty Beef Ribs
28 oz.
Meatloaf and Gravy
1 lb.
Beef Fajitas
1 lb.
Fully Cooked Meatballs
1 lb.
All Meat Hot Dogs
1 lb.
Broccoli
1 lb.
Peas and Carrots
28 oz.
Pasta Sauce
1 lb.
Pasta
32 oz.
Borden 2% Reduced Fat Shelf Stable Milk
32 oz.
Hawaiian Punch
12 ct.
Corn Tortillas
7 oz.
Blueberry Muffin Mix

Dozen Eggs

Dessert Item

All told, that's $60 - $100 worth of groceris. There are no income or other restrictions on who can buy this food, and of course, food stamps are accepted.

They also have monthly specials, such as the following for July:

JULY SPECIAL #1
7 lb. Assorted Meat Grill Box - $20.00
(1.5 lb. New York Strip Steaks (2 x 12 oz.)
2.5 lb. Boneless Netted Boston Butt Roast
2 lb. Meaty Beef Ribs
1 lb. Mild Italian Sausage)

JULY SPECIAL #2
4.5 lb. Steak and Chicken Combo Box - $20.00
(1.5 lb. Kansas City Strips (2 x 12 oz.)
1.5 lb. Bone-In Ribeyes (2 x 12 oz.)
1.5 lb. Bacon-Wrapped Chicken Filet (4 x 6 oz.))

JULY SPECIAL #3
10 lb. Breaded Chicken Breast Tenders - $18.00

JULY SPECIAL #4
Fresh Fruit and Veggie Box - $16.00
(6 ears Corn
2 lb. Carrots
2 lb. Yellow Onions
1 Cello-Wrapped Lettuce
1 Pineapple
1 lb. Strawberries
1 Seedless Watermelon
6 Russet Potatoes)

The only catch with the specials is that you have to buy the basic package before you can buy any special packages. But that aside, this is a great way to cut 50% - 75% off of your grocery bill. This program isn't available in every area yet, but they hope to be nationwide within a few years (and with the economy and food prices being what they are, not a moment too soon!)

4. You could save WAY more...
... by eliminating all that factory-made processed food and sticking to basic staples like flour, rice, dry beans, etc., (all bought in wholesale bulk, of course) and growing your own veggies (You'll need a big chest freezer).

5. Not everyone has the money to buy and room to keep a chest freezer.
And anyone who lives in a city likely doesn't have a place of sufficient size to grow their own veggies.

"You could save WAY more by eliminating all that factory-made processed food and sticking to basic staples like flour, rice, dry beans."

That you could, but many people don't have the time to cook from scratch, especially if they're working long hours or two jobs just to keep up with their bills. Not to mention that some people are just terrible cooks...

:)

6. Perhaps this would be a good time
for those time-challenged terrible cooks to develop some survival skills. Maybe they wouldn't have to work two jobs if they didn't waste so much money on over-priced factory food.

I'm obviously not talking about people genuinely below the poverty line who are struggling for survival, I'm talking about spoiled rotten suburbanites who think the world owes them an oversized McMansion and a gas guzzling SUV to tow their ski boat to the lake. You know, the people who have so lost touch with reality that they can use the words "orthodontist" and "necessary" in the same sentence.

But even those well below the poverty line often waste their food stamps on high-priced flavored, carbonated sugar water and cans and boxes of factory food. What they could save buying only staples would go a long way toward buying fresh or frozen veggies instead of growing them. Although, even a small patio container garden can provide a lot of fresh veggies in the summer. Just ask the Cubans.

(Disclaimer: I, myself, am well below the poverty line, and I eat cheaply, but very well. I just don't waste what little money I have on frivolous plastic trash from WalMart, or the latest 92-inch plasma TV. I but my staples in bulk from a restaurant supply house. I drive a beat-up, dented 12 year old sub-compact car that gets super mileage, and that I can maintain myself. I am very happy with my frugal lifestyle.)

9. waaaay too much meat in their program
It seemed to good to be true, but turns out its just not a good program nutritionally. Sorry to look this gift horse in the mouth, and yes for people going under it may be better than no help. But off the top of my head, the basic program looks like roughtly 2 pounds of meat for each pound of veggies and a handful of grain.

It's too bad it doesn't offer about 2 pounds of grains and beans and a pound of veggies for each pound of lean meat. Better healthwise *and* better environmentally (you can feed a lot more people with the grain it takes to feed livestock than with the meat you get from them.)

And the hawaiian punch? No nutritional value -- diabetes and obesity in the making.

Looks to save $$ on food...only to lose your health! Not a good deal in the long run, imho!

10. It's great in terms of value
Meat is more filling per pound than vegetables, and more expensive.

12. That's true
But everyone dies of something eventually. Better than to suffer now with protein deficiency, rickets, hunger, hair loss.
