$1.6 trillion: New estimate on magnitude of writedowns
Even I can barely fathom this one. $1.6 trillion is the estimate figure that a Bridgewater Associates study has come up with for writedowns by financial institutions. Bridgewater has calculated that, so far, financial institutions have only acknowledged losses of $400 billion.

See the est of the post on my site. Do leave comments as to whether you think this just scare tactics or a real likely estimate. My previous line of thought was $600 billion. Now, with the increased turmoil, I am moving toward the 800-900 billion range.
