precisely what an economic fundamental is?

I know I sure can't. It makes a great soundbite, sure. Just keep repeating the mantra and the parrots will repeat it. The fundamentals are sound.

So please, someone (say, Sen McCain?), please explain exactly what that little sentence means. What fundamental? How is it sound? What would unsound look like? Huh?
