Need help: Mccain v Obama Tax plans simplified for the electorate
I have a friend who owns three rental homes and is supporting Obama but her sister is voting for mCcain. We are trying to win the sister over. Perhaps with your help this can be accomplished. The sister: I'll call her 'Bea' is a typical overworked under-payed struggling middle-class Christian mother. She has utterly NO TIME for politics nor could she comprehend things if she had a week off to figure stuff out on her own! Any time off would be instead spent with her family-(NOTHING wrong with that!) So what is needed is a good, simplified response, one that 'Bea' and millions like her across our nation can read, comprehend and take to the voting booths. I am asking for help from my fellow DUers to do this.

Here is our correspondence so far from my friend, (the Obama supporter)

Hey ((chknltl)),

'Bea' ((the bush supporting sister)) is saying Obama is going to raise all taxes including those of the middle class way higher, and also on real estate taxes, income payroll taxes, etc. Can you look into this, and see if it's true. She's saying that Obama's tax increase are going to hurt the middle class way more than McCain's.

((from Bea)):....

> and Obama ----
>
> current
> Obama proposal
> Income Tax 35%
> 39.6%
> Income/Payroll 37.4%
> 52.2% (this is huge for me)
> capital gains 15%
> 28%
> dividends 15%
> 39.6%
> Estate Tax (2010) 0%
> 55% (people should have to pay more than
> 1/2 in taxes for what their family leaves them!)
> This effects you more in some ways then me since you own 3
> houses!! You are going to be paying out the ass in taxes
> girl!!!!
>

My response, the one I was about to send:

Re: Obama's tax plan is worse than McCain's tax plan.

Your sister 'Bea' is hearing things wrong or being misled. Go to Obama's official web-page and read the facts for yourself: http://www.barackobama.com/issues/economy/ There is NOTHING there about raising YOUR taxes, you are NOT about to get stuck paying even more on your three houses. Something 'Bea' DOES need to know is that Senator Obama's Tax plan CALLS FOR 'BEA' GETTING A $1000 tax rebate!!! This fact is indisputably in Obama's plan for each and every American who is making what 'Bea' and her husband are making.

2ndly: It is the pundits like Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh who are lying out their asses about Obama raising taxes. These lies get filtered down to the common American worker who has been working frantically to keep up but has little time to do any real fact checking on their own. Actually Obama will be rolling back the tax breaks on the ultra rich ONLY, the tax breaks that they were given by bush-the same breaks McCain wants to make permanent and if possible actually increase! If you go to McCain's official web-page you will see that this is true! Here is the link to mCcain's official page regarding his tax plan: http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/Issues/0b8e4db8-5b0c-459f-97ea-d7b542a78235.htm
Please note:
"Cut The Corporate Tax Rate From 35 To 25 Percent." And who will be the actual recipients of that tax break? Will it be the corporation itself or will it be those who are the ultra elitists within that corporation? Another-words it means FURTHER TAX BREAKS TO THE ULTRA RICH! Do you truly think that the CEOs from EXXON need more TAX BREAKS??? Does 'Bea' truly think that giving THEM those tax breaks will put food on her table? Trickle down economics is a proven LIE. It has NOT worked for anyone except the ultra rich-IT'S A DAMNED TRICK!

(Well so far I think I am doing OK, here is where I would like help my fellow DUers, this is MY version of a simplified analogy that could maybe sway the likes of 'Bea' but I am not confident it is truly the best analogy, hopefully someone here can come up with something better):

Ask 'Bea': Where did all of America's money go during the Great Depression? It didn't just up and vanish now did it-it went SOMEWHERE. Was it in the hands of the poor? Was it in the hands of the Middle Class? Was it in the hands of the moderately rich? OR WAS IT IN THE HANDS OF THE ULTRA RICH??? It WAS INDEED in the hands of the ultra rich! This is the EXACT SAME THING that is happening today! 90% of the American citizenry is being raped for their assets, for their money! The neo-cons are funneling that wealth into a few greedy hands who are laughing their asses off all the way to their offshore banks. A vote for McCain who on his own web-page promises to grant even MORE money to these guys is a vote to rob 90% of America for what little they have left! If McCain is promising US a tax break-well exactly what kind of break is THAT, when WE have NO MONEY????

2. Consider most of this added to my response to my friend.
Thanks for responding FrenchieCat. Three of those links will likely be added. The " and Obama's plan for change: http://www.barackobama.com/pdf/ObamaBlueprintForChange " looked a bit much early on but the video format link below was excellent. That last one was best of all! Thanks again for these.
