Interesting observation from my workplace's "Staff Meeting"
I work for the County, won't say where.

Our CEO was saying that one figure defining the morale of a workplace was the number of people leaving.

He pointed out:

2001: 11 people leave (1 retiring)

2002: 8 people leave (3 retiring) - not counting the 5 staff cut due to budget cuts

2003: 1 person left (retiring)

He thought that that was a good sign that our morale was fairly good.

Keeping my comments down so that only one or two people around me could hear, I said "Nobody's hiring."
