Wal-Mart Sells $1 Billion in Goods a Day (and Other Scary Numbers)
Want to see some crazy numbers?

In 2008, Wal-Mart sold:

$1,095,890,410 worth of goods a day
$45,662,100 worth of goods an hour
$761,035 worth of goods a minute and
$12,683 worth of goods a second.

In Q4 alone, they NETTED $3.8 billion in PROFITS!

(Numbers courtesy of Wake Up Wal-Mart, with whom I work)

If Wal-Mart has overflowing coffers, is it really too much to ask to give employees decent health care?

Q: Where is all the money going?

A: Four out of the top 10 richest Americans are Waltons. Remember how Scrooge McDuck used to swim through his cash? Well, I'm pretty sure Alice Walton has a pretty similar life.

Every American wants to prosper, but in America, we have a tradition of a strong middle class and our most successful businesses taking care of their employees. Walmart (with it's 70% of goods from China) obviously does not care about this heritage.

I hope our new leaders in Washington fight for America's workers, and not its Waltons.

1. Ironically now matter how much I
hear people complain about Wal-Mart, they still from what I've seen, at one time or another, buy from them.

Wal-mart is our leader in retailer, and despite the fact that I don't like them, another irony is the worst our economy becomes, the more likely consumers will be to buy from them if they can get a cheaper price at Wal-Mart then another store....even if most of their products are from China, or even when it's made in China through Wal-Mart. Vicious cycle.
