Help me out here. Someone apparently got a hold of my |
|
credit card information, but instead of charging merchandise, they charged things like memberships to Internet auction sites and a trial subscription to the New York Times (delivered to my house). The biggest charge was less than $35.00, the rest were all under $3.00. What gives? Why would anyone do that? What was in it for them?
The card is now history, but I am wondering what in the world happened. They used a CompuServe email account (not mine) as the email address.

1. I Had The Exact Thing Happen to Me |

My credit card company took care of everything. I got a new card and it never happened again. I'm not sure what purpose this type of harrassing causes. Does somebody not like you? That was my question to myself, but I couldn't come up with an answer. It is not identity theft so don't get too worried about it.

just so damn strange. I almost wonder if these websites aren't in on the deal, hoping that I wouldn't catch the small monthly charges.

3. I Was Wondering the Same Thing |

One of my strange happenings was someone ordered me cookbooks sent to my house. As you said, there was never a charge over $50. I wonder if lots of people don't read their bills so these companies take the chance to get away with it. Sad, if true.

Little charges... memberships and like that. I went to order an item over the phone and the card bounced. I called and the fraud dept of Visa had caught 3 different attempts like this and declined them. Visa got stuck with a $4.95 charge and declined the rest.
I get new cards.
Good job, Visa.
I'm wondering if it's not somebody pissed at the CC companies... just fucking with them through us.
