Dollar Stronger, Boosts Japanese Exports

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - The U.S. dollar stayed near a three-month high against the yen on Monday, boosting Japanese exporters and Tokyo shares, but most other Asian markets fell.

The dollar also hit a three-week peak against the euro as traders covered short positions on last week's news Japan had increased security against possible terror attacks, as well as better-than-expected U.S. inflation figures.

European shares were expected to open firmer, with financial bookmakers expecting Britain's FTSE 100 to open up to 7 points higher, Germany's DAX index seen adding as much as 12 points and France's CAC-40 set to start around 6 points up.

Tokyo's Nikkei stock average rose 1.38 percent to end at a four-week high of 10,868.96.
