Spain is sliding into a full-blown economic depression with unemployment approaching levels not seen since the Second Republic of the 1930s and little chance of recovery until well into the next decade, according to a clutch of reports over recent days.

1. Sorry to hear this.
Spain is my favorite country to visit. I wonder what the effect of this on tourism (and vice versa) is.

5. I think I've developed tunnel-vision lately.
Its hard to be positive when you live in Michigan....

our real unemployment rate is almost as high as Spain's.

8. No, I'm serious. I really do have a short attention span.
I can't stay angry with people very long. I can't carry a full on grudge, even if I will let you know now and then about the grave injustice you caused.

That's why I read encyclopedias as literature and adore the internet and COPS. Short vignettes of new information are my style. I rarely forget anything, including details, but I don't dwell or concentrate. I often joke around even with someone I am truly angry with, because the humor is distracting from the point. I think I have ACDC.

7. My trip to northern Spain in the fall of 08 changed my life!
I went to Madrid, the Basque country and Barcelona.

I have to say that the Prado and the Reina Sofia in Madrid were totally fabulous. Then, we travelled to Bilbao in the Basque country, a city transformed by modern art. The Guggenheim, the newly redesigned subway system and a major bridge, were transformative art projects. It all was just amazing. I was glad to be there and be part of it!

I was disappointed in Barcelona as I found it crowded and a place that just had become too overrun by people wanting to be "trendy." I didn't dislike it; I liked a lot about it. I just found it so full of people in such a much smaller space than Madrid (which I loved!) that I felt squeezed. But I am getting more crowd averse as I get older so that could color my thinking!

10. An incredible country. I want to go to southern Spain, Seville, Granada and Cordoba.
At some point I'll get there (don't know when).

13. The art in Madrid is just too outstanding to bypass IMO.
But then, I am batshit about art and can spend DAYS in museums, as long as I have evenings with fine food and wine...

12. I stayed with a family in Madrid, for three weeks, in '90.
Wonderful city, wonderful people.

This news in the OP really hurts me.
