Bernanke: " "Having a larger income is exciting at first, but
as you get used to your new standard of living and as you associate with other people in your new income bracket, the thrill quickly wears off," he said.

Bernanke gave a commencement address and actually said that.

Now I feel so sorry for him....poor baby...the thrill is gone.

8. Ben is one of those people who, "have never had the joy of a welfare christmas"
From I Will Buy You A New Life by Everclear:

Here is the money that I owe you
So you can pay the bills
I will give you more
When I get paid again
I hate those people who love to tell you
Money is the root of all that kills
They have never been poor
They have never had the joy of a welfare christmas

I know we will never look back
You say you wake up crying
Yes and you don't know why
You get up and you go lay down
Inside my baby's room
I guess I'm doing ok
I moved in with the strangest guy
Can you believe he actually thinks
That I'm really alive
I will buy you a garden
Where your flowers can bloom
I will buy you a new car
Perfect shinny and new
I will buy you that big house
Way up in the west hills
I will buy you a new life
Yes I will...

13. I was thinking of that song when I read thing.
I hate those people who love to tell you, Money is the root of all that kills
They have never been poor, They have never had the joy of a welfare Christmas

First time I heard that song those words struck me. Growing up our family wasn't rich but we always had "enough" lots of people have a lot less than that.

Being rich might not make you happy but being poor sure doesn't either.

9. He's completely right, mood always returns to it's pre-set baseline after a few months.
This is why wealth is addictive, they need their "fix".

12. exactly
He is correct.

I had an uber rich friend who sadly died of breast cancer quite young. She had the money to do anything that she wanted. Over and over she told me that all that stuff lost its specialness.

So what did she do? She taught high school English, and tried to engage the kids, and used her money to bring in educators to change the way the high school classrooms operated.

10. Wouldn't it be Fair and equitable
if every American had the opportunity to experience the "letdown" of being wealthy for themselves. Bernanke is not speaking of the income boost that we might get from a payraise. He is talking about becoming wealthy beyond imagination. That special, elite sensation that is "saved" for the top 5% of Americans. :puke:

14. There really isn't much comfort in the knowledge that
Bernake will die just like the rest of us. To have so much for causing so much pain to the rest of humanity.....there is no justice in this world and I'm sure I'm a fool for expecting it or even looking for it. My question, is justice, like beauty only in the eye of the beholder?

16. What a snotty, inconsiderate thing to say.
When Americans are starving, losing jobs, homes, everything, I venture any one of them would gladly switch positions with him to see how bored they get.

I find his remarks offensive and insensitive.

17. "Let 'em eat caviar!" He might as well have said. I agree, he's full of shit.

There is mucho volunteer work he could get into helping other people instead of whining about how bored he is.

18. "Let them eat cake" was exactly the way I heard it.
He is one of the too too many people who are truly clueless about how most of the world lives.

I used to laugh when I heard the term "living in a bubble world" but now I know it is true.
