Missing: Large lake in southern Chile
A lake in southern Chile has mysteriously disappeared, prompting speculation the ground has simply opened up and swallowed it whole.

The lake was situated in the Magallanes region in Patagonia and was fed by water, mostly from melting glaciers.

It had a surface area of between 4 and 5 hectares (10-12 acres) -- about the size of 10 soccer pitches.

5. Warming
And the sinkholes in Florida, like this crack probably was too, were caused by global warming because the of the groundwater lost which causes the sinkholes and cracks. We're going to have many more lakes disappear until we stop driving so much.

10. Actually, sinkholes are caused by an excess of water, not its loss.
There's a good chance this may simply be a case of a natural phenomenon. Not everything is caused by global warming.

4. Earth tremor is one theory.
Southern Chile has had quite a lot of tremors this year. Quite a lot.

7. Apparently not. Whatever it is, the focus is on some natural phenomenon.
Whether it's connected to global warming hasn't been mentioned, but I wouldn't rule it out, either.
