RFK Jr at Live Earth.
Has anyone found video of his speech posted anywhere yet?

I missed it and desperately want to see it, but I can't find a clip anywhere.

1. I didn't even know he spoke
And I've been watching a lot of it. Hopefully it will be on the DVR.

2. He was at the NY/NJ venue.
Apparently he spoke right before Gore and Bon Jovi came on.

Everyone here at DU was raving about how good he was and I missed it! :(

3. Me either
Although I've seen Roger Waters 3 times now, along with the Chilis and Duran Duran. I don't know why I keep hitting the same musicians no matter what I watch.

5. Was he there to speak against Cape Wind?
I heard it might damage his view of the beach.

I'm reading a biography of his uncle that discusses his father in some detail. Ick!

6. Did you really just use the word "Ick"
to describe Robert F. Kennedy?

You should watch the video before you put it down. Rfk is one of the best speakers you will ever hear. He posesses a great heart and a brilliant mind and has the courage of his convictions.

Like his father...

8. The guy who chose Joseph McCarthy to be godfather for his oldest son?
Edited on Sun Jul-08-07 05:28 PM by NNadir
Absolutely.

That's the guy I'm talking about.

Democrats who knew him personally in his time thought he was an awful man. They included Hubert Humphrey, Adlai Stevenson, Eleanor Roosevelt, Stuart Symington, Harry Truman and Lyndon Johnson. Not one of them thought that he had any principals whatsoever.

If you get beyond the myths there is a very ugly man.

7. No, he wasn't.
Tell me, NNadir... have you actually ever found another human being who is ideologically and practically pure enough to satisfy you -- a real living human being without a scintilla of weakness, error, or internal or external conflict?

I disagreed with Kennedy's opposition to the Cape Cod wind farm and I didn't really understand it, but I'm certainly not going to condemn him and the whole body of his life's work because of it.

9. No actually, I haven't found such a human being.

Bananas and JPak who post here are pretty near to perfect in my view, but most other people fall short.

I don't/didn't like Robert Kennedy, father or son.

If you must know, I'm not always too happy with myself. I have a lot of flaws.

10. Well, there you go.
Maybe if you can learn to be more gentle with yourself, you'll be able to do the same with other people.

No one's pure.

No one.

We have to just keep doing the best we can, singly and together.

It's a much less lonely and hugely more productive way to get along. :)

11. Well, while we're hugging let me tell you that I still can't stand Robert Kennedy.
Edited on Sun Jul-08-07 07:30 PM by NNadir
He's certainly no ordinary hypocrite.

If I were him, I wouldn't be speaking at an event about climate change. He puts his views over the atmosphere.

Imagine that...

I'd like to be better at hero worship, but somehow I always fall short.

Everything I hear about Robert F. Kennedy reminds me of the rest of his family many of whom were basically scoundrels and thugs. The entire family subsisted entirely on marketing and image and has always had very little substance. It has always thrilled me to recognize that the great fighter for civil rights, John F. Kennedy watched Dr. Martin Luther King give his "I have a dream" speech on television even though he was in the White House just a few blocks away.

I have no idea if his views were blocked in any way.

Keep in mind that I am very fond of JPak and Bananas though. They are the most exciting and effective fighters against climate change ever, absolutely the greatest, bestest, most insightful. Their efforts to fight the largest source of climate change gas free energy has been a true inspiration. It makes me want to drive my Hummer to a concert burning brazillions of watts of electricity to celebrate my commitment to our dear mother earth.

I can't wait for Bananas to come here and tell us what Al Gore said. I would watch the concert myself, but I wouldn't want to make a stab at interpreting Al Gore since I have not been intiated into the secret rites.

If Bananas were not here to tell me what Al Gore thinks, why I'd probably have to listen to Al Gore all by myself. That would be most unfortunate.

12. You're very droll.
I will now have to keep an eye out for the fabled JPak and Bananas, since I seem to have missed their erudite postings to this point. I do wish I knew what you were talking about with regard to their efforts, so I'll have to pay more careful attention from now on.

What this has to do with JKF watching MLK on TV instead of in person, I have no idea, but I do appreciate your attempts at wit.
