Journal entry Sept. 12, 2017...

Still recovering from last week. Power has been intermittent at best. The heat has been brutal. A/C is just a dream.

I'm glad we had put in that 500 gallon rain collector years ago.

The jarring we did last winter seems to have held up well, and the batch from last week should hold us over for a good long while.

Two more families, if you want to call them that, moved out last week. More like drifters.

Steve is still holding on. Connie and I spoke with the other neighbors last night and decided to use the land on the abandoned houses to grow food.

I saw two military trucks set up in front of the high school. Thought that odd, since classes are not held there anymore.

Mr. Ross down the block started grazing his horse on his property. We now give him a share of food to pick up things in town for us.

Gas is just way to expensive now. I'm having a hard time remembering when last I road in a car. Probably 6 months ago?

Quickly transcribing my entry is getting harder since I hardly type anymore.

Last I heard, the Mexican "civil war" is still going strong. Mexico City has been closed to the outside world. The few refugees I have spoken with don't make it sound pretty. Border "incidents" are an everyday thing now.

Still no word out of Iran. So sad. Karma.

I keep wondering if this is what it was like after the fall of Rome?
