~I'm only 13 signatures away from the tenth tree!~
http://www.tree-nation.com/community/petition.php?id=25

I posted this petition on Tree Nation this past March asking people to pledge to be climate messengers in response to Mr. Gore's important and crucial film An Inconvenient Truth. I set the goal at 1000 and am now only 13 signatures away from that goal! That means that for every 100 signatures Tree Nation has planted a tree in the heart of Niger to mitigate deforestation and poverty. The petition is now at nine trees and I am so hoping by this weekend to make that first 1000 so I can set the next 1000 as the new goal.

And the wonderful thing about this petition is that these signatures are from all over the world. China, Italy, Mexico, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Greece, Spain, Yemen, Canada, the U.S., Italy, Ireland, Norway, South Africa, the U.K., and even Iraq. I am really so filled up reading how much people worldwide really do care about this planet and are willing to pledge to take better care of it in order to sustain it for the future.

So yes, if you would like to sign this petition to help me get to that first 1000 and give the U.S. more representation on this petition and help plant another tree in Niger, please do so. This petition has already been sent on to Mr. Gore in Nashville to alert him to the worldwide support addressing this climate crisis and his work on it have. And I will forward it to him again once I reach the goal.

To me this is what Live Earth was and is all about. Joining together on a global scale as world citizens to work together to hold governments, business, and ourselves accountable to mitigate the effects of a crisis that is now affecting millions of people... and in many cases, people who are not doing the brunt of the damage. This gives me hope that we can make this happen.

4. Is it also possible to just plant trees, directly?
You're up to 991. Nine more to go.

We need a lot more trees. Deforestation doesn't get enough attention, but there are so many sub-issues involved that it's going to take a lot of effort.

I've heard it often that planting a year-old sapling costs about a buck in single lots -- and if you plant a hundred or more, it's even cheaper. And even little kids can raise saplings from seeds, for the price of recyclable plastic cups. This would also be a good kind of project for schools, teaching the kids about teamwork, organization, and hands-on environmental responsibility.

Alas, I've suggested this a couple times to local school boards and teachers, but it went nowhere. Perhaps its time has come.

Thank you, and good luck!

14. 1042... The Baobab Tree Thanks You

This tree with its immense trunk can store up to 120,000 liters of water in it to fight drought, and its leaves are used for food by those people living in Africa.
