Solar as a smart investment for Kern County homeowners

While the environmental benefits of solar electricity are well established, many homeowners are surprised to learn that solar is also a smart financial investment. When East Bakersfield homeowners David and Beverley Nelson installed a 5.6 kilowatt solar system on their home they were motivated to do so for financial reasons.

“The biggest reason that we looked into solar was that we are looking towards retirement and trying to decrease our out of pocket expenses,” Beverley Nelson explained. “The monthly savings with solar has been quite dramatic and has allowed us to stabilize and minimize our expenses in preparation for retirement.”

Many homeowners who invest in solar electricity realize a positive cash flow from day one. This is because the payments to finance the system are often lower than the homeowner's monthly electricity bill. The extra cash that is freed up by the monthly and yearly electric bill savings can be set aside for college tuitions, family vacations, retirement or other needs.

The Nelson's are happy with their system because, “It just sits up there and does it’s thing. We are able to run our air conditioner this summer without worrying about huge electric bills like our non-solar neighbors.”
