Average Temperatures In Anchorage Up 2.1F In 2006 Over 1970 - 2000 Mean - ADN
EDIT

In Anchorage, AkPIRG said, the average temperature over the seven years ending December 2006 rose 2.1 degrees Fahrenheit above the average of the 30 years ending December 2000. Talkeetna and Barrow each showed a rise in average temperatures for the year 2006, an AkPIRG official said at the group's downtown Anchorage offices.

The data AkPIRG released Thursday came from "Feeling the Heat: Global Warming and Rising Temperatures in the United States," a report issued this week by the U.S. Public Interest Research Group's Education Fund in Washington, D.C. AkPIRG is an autonomous affiliate of U.S.PIRG.

The data in "Feeling the Heat" were derived from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, said Kelci Barnes, AkPIRG's citizen outreach director.

The notion that the earth is heating up and that global warming could have severe agricultural, economic and epidemiological effects worldwide is becoming less controversial with the passing of each sweltering summer Outside.

1. NOAA buoys: Kodiak Island SST up 1.5 degrees C, even more in great lakes area, etc.
Average Temperature Increase from beginning of data period to end of period- by buoy site
(degrees Centigrade for sea surface temperatures and air tempertures)

NOAA monitoring buoy site: source: http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/historical_data.shtml

Summary of average temperature increase by region and regression slope for trend (degrees C/decade)
(Average temperature was compared for the first 3 or 4 or 6 or 8 years of period to similar period at end of data period)

Alaska Kodiak Island
SST
Average temperature increase from first 4 years of period to last 4 years was 1.5 degrees C
Average temperature increase from first 8 years of period to last 8 years was 0.8 degrees C
linear regression slope = 0.5 degrees C./decade
AT similar but more variable

Great Lakes (3 sites of over 25 years data summarized of several sites partially compiled)
SST
Av. Temp. increase from first 5 years of period to last 5 years at least 1.5 degrees C
Av. Temp. increase from first 8 years of period to last 8 years at least 1.6 degrees C
regression slope = 0.79 to 0.94 degrees C/decade
AT similar but more variable

North Atlantic coast (6 sites of over 20 years summarized here)
SST
Av. Temp. increase from first 5 years of period to last 5 years at least 0.5 degrees C
regression slope = 0.24 to 0.40 degrees C/ decade
AT similar but more variable

South Atlantic (3 sites summarized here)
SST
Av. Temp. increase from first 4 years of period to last 4 years at least 0.6 degrees C
Av. Temp. increase from first 6 years of period to last 6 years at least 0.5 degrees C
regression slope = 0.20 to 0.29 degrees C/decade
AT similar but more variable

Western Gulf (2 mid-Gulf sites summarized here)
SST
Av. Temp. increase from first 6 years of period to last 6 years at least 0.9 degrees C
regression slope = 0.5 degrees C/decade
AT similar but more variable

Eastern Gulf of Mexico (5 sites summarized here with data over 20 years)
SST
Av. Temp. increase was 0.3 to 0.8 degrees C for first 3 or 6 years compared to last 3 or 6 years
regression slope = 0.16 to 0.53 degrees C/decade
