The northeast states typically see a F1/F2 tornado every now and then. NJ, NY, CT and MA are especially likely to experience such a storm. We get plenty of strong thunderstorms here in NJ each year and when conditions are just right, one rotates and there you go. There are always a few tornado watches each season.
It just happened to occur this time over Brooklyn, making it a big deal, but it really isn't and certainly is not a sign of global warming or such silliness. There are plenty of more legitimate indicators.
