...there's about 1 million square km less ice right now than at this time last year, if I read the chart right.
Kinda makes it harder for it to all freeze back. The chart looks like a clipped sinusiod. A couple more years like this and you could very well see the peak without clipping at this rate.

But you're correct about refreezing and all that - makes things a bit, uh, tougher.
