Dangerous fossil fuel terrorists strike at Mexican dangerous fossil fuel facilities.
In my position I am always hearing about the "threat of nuclear terrorism." There is lots and lots and lots and lots of talk about this, mostly from people who couldn't care less about actual energy relating terrorism.

Here is the number of nuclear terrorism incidents in the last 50 years: Zero.

It is now the sixth anniversary of one of the worst fossil fuel terrorist events in history, and there was yet another incident of dangerous fossil fuel terrorism today.

Of course the world couldn't care less about this latest terrorist incident, but all the same, it actually happened.

VERACRUZ, Mexico - A shadowy leftist guerrilla group took credit for a string of explosions that ripped apart at least six Mexican oil and gas pipelines Monday, rattling financial markets and causing hundreds of millions of dollars in lost production.

The six explosions could be seen miles away, and set off fires that sent flames and black smoke shooting high above the Gulf coast state of Veracruz.

At least a dozen pipelines, most carrying natural gas, were affected, said Jesus Reyes Heroles, the head of Mexico's oil monopoly Petroleos Mexicanos, without providing specifics. The explosions occurred in valve stations where different pipelines intersect.

He said there would be hundreds of millions of dollars in lost production and about nine states and the capital, Mexico City, would be affected.

"It is a big blow," he said. "You can't store natural gas or transport it by truck."

Here is the number of people who can prattle on for hours about the "threat" of nuclear terrorism (without ever producing an example of actual nuclear terrorism) who have called for banning dangerous fossil fuels because of dangerous fossil fuel terrorism: Zero.

2. Actually I've seen at least one person on this board propose banning fossil fuels
for precisely this reason, that fossil fuels are inherently dangerous and must be brought to an end for the protection of mankind.

I have no idea if that person prattled about nuclear terrorism, but I'm just saying, people calling for the banning of "dangerous" fossil fuels are literally, not unheard of.

3. I am continuously calling for banning dangerous fossil fuels on this site.
On the other hand, I think the "nuclear terrorism threat" is a bunch of mindless shit perpetuated by precisely the people who know the least about nuclear energy.

Many of the "we're scared of nuclear terrorists" crowd apparently went to school at the Dick Cheney School of Chemistry and Physics.

6. Whoops, I forgot, it was you, wasn't it!
My apologies.

I may not agree with you about banning, but certainly fossil fuels have inherent dangers to them. It is, after all, playing with fire.

4. No one in this group promotes fossil fuels.
But a few true believers do promote nuclear power, and they just can't seem to grasp the dangers inherent in dealing with this ultimate poison.

Any rational person can see that a nuclear accident is far worse than a "dangerous fossil fuel accident," and that radiation is far worse than carbon dioxide.

Every nuclear power plant is a steady-state nuclear accident, because they leak radiation and produce radioactive waste night and day. Every uranium mine is just like a coal mine with the added hazard of poisoning the workers and surrounding eco-system with radiation. And if these same rebels had blown up a nuclear installation instead of a gas pipeline the results would have been truly devastating.

As bad as fossil fuels are, no one with any common sense would advocate for replacing them with something even worse. But true believers rarely engage their common sense...

8. That's nonsense.
It doesn't really dignify an answer, or maybe just this one word, not that anti-nukes can count: "Germany."

11. this is just a preview of what is to come...
as cantarell winds down and the proceeds for the mexican economy vanish, things south of the border are only going to get worse.

this right wing stooge that was installed via morons* voting process is on the front line of conservative stupidity.

Mexico is dying. We get a huge portion of our oil from them. They die, we die.

I'm predicting a cold winter.
