(Updates with partial electrical power restored at two
refineries)

HOUSTON, Sept 13 (Reuters) - Hurricane Humberto shut
three U.S. refineries in Texas on Thursday morning,
sending oil prices to a record high on the New York
Mercantile Exchange.

NYMEX crude oil futures climbed as much as 28 cents to
a record $80.19 per barrel Thursday morning on a jump
in Gulf Coast gasoline wholesale prices.

All three refineries are in Port Arthur, Texas, which
Humberto raked with 80 mph winds early on Thursday
morning before crossing into Louisiana.

4. Not like this. That storm intensified about 100% right before it hit.
And it is going to circle and come back apparently going over those same waters and hit about the same area.

I don't think any storm has ever intensifed that fast in such a small area.

5. Plenty of heat for it. And Texas may be more water than land lately.

6. But those waters have not warmed that appreciably.
So why the intensity spike?? I watched the weather channel and others - they have no expaination. It really is weird.

7. I agree completely. Lots of weird hurricane behavior since 2004.
The new world is coming.

8. There is really something happening - and it is bad.
Tropical storms can appear with little warning maybe a hundred miles off the coast and hit as a hurricane with almost no warning. Right at the heart of our oil receiveing and production areas too. There is some kind of a warning in all this.

There is more than a month of the season right now - isn't it?

God be with you Texas - I think you are right in the middle of it - and I LIKE those people - they are decent people.

11. According to NHC, Humberto went from a tropical depression to a strong Cat 1in 18 Hours
They've never seen anything like this before - Katrina & Wilma were at least at TS status before they went apeshit upon hitting the Gulf.
