Gore bags climate 'Bonnie and Clyde'
AUSTRALIA and the US are the Bonnie and Clyde of climate change negotiations, standing in the way of global agreement on a solution, former US vice-president Al Gore said yesterday.

Addressing a $1000-a-plate business lunch in Sydney at the start of a whirlwind speaking tour, Mr Gore said Australia could help accelerate policy reform in the US by signing the Kyoto Protocol, due to come into force next year.

"For a variety of different reasons, our two countries have been impediments at the global level for what needs to happen," Mr Gore told the Global Business Forum yesterday.

"If Australia changes course on Kyoto and on core commitments and joined this treaty, it would be impossible for the US to withstand the pressure," he said.

"It is a moment when Australia can tip the balance."

1. I'm guessing that BushCo and Howard Corp don't much care what Gore says about them.

"...it would be impossible for the US to withstand the pressure," he said.
