Less driving, less gas, less tax
http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/local_news/stories/2007/09/24/RoadBloc.ART_ART_09-24-07_A1_UP80BCP.html?sid=101

With prices at the pump prompting Ohioans to drive less or buy fuel-efficient cars, the state is collecting less gasoline tax. The result: less money to fix roads and untangle messes such as the I-70/71 merge Downtown.

The state Department of Transportation says it faces an estimated $1.5 billion deficit by 2013, and that's part of the reason.

Drivers like Marti Snow of Dublin are buying less and driving less. She doesn't hop into her 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee to run errands at Easton as readily as she once did.

"When it costs $60 to fill up a tank, I'm much more aware," she said, "where I've probably never worried about it in the past."

3. They've been working on I70/71
for over thirty years. It keeps getting bigger and more complicated and has yet to reduce congestion. Every time they enlarge it, more cars use it and the cycle repeats. The same problems exists in many places. The thinking of the planners is always the same. Adding more lanes will reduce congestion instead of thinking about ways to reduce traffic to reduce congestion.
