State's first wind energy park almost complete

Final two wind turbines to be installed this week

HURON COUNTY (WJRT) - (09/24/07)--Michigan's first wind energy park is almost complete. Thirty wind turbines are now up in Huron County, with the final two being installed this week.

You really do notice that when you approach the wind farm, as the nearly 400-foot-tall structures dwarf the tallest silos.

It's one of the newest sights in Mid-Michigan for Norman and Bonnie Bergdolt to show their friends from the Upper Peninsula.

The Bergdolts live in Frankenmuth and watched one of the towers go up just a month ago.

"Now a month later and they're all done," Bonnie Bergdolt said.

It's estimated the 32 wind turbines will produce nearly 53 megawatts of electricity -- enough to power 15,000 homes.
