Winds of the future will blow through Quebec, minister says

Quebec intends to become a world leader in wind-power expertise and wind-turbine manufacturing, the province's natural resources minister told Canada's largest-ever gathering of industry professionals on Monday.

About 1,500 delegates from North America and Europe are attending the Canadian Wind Energy Association's annual conference and trade show. Most are seeking a piece of the green-energy bonanza, politicians included.

"Wind-energy development in Quebec is a project that we are conducting with great enthusiasm," Claude Bechard told the conference.
Hydro-Quebec -- North America's largest hydroelectric power producer -- recently held the largest-ever single solicitation for wind power.

DEVELOPERS INTERESTED

More than 25 developers have made 66 bids for wind farms, proposals that total 7,724 megawatts of wind power, which is almost four times the 2,000 megawatts that Hydro-Quebec is seeking to add to its network.

create a great industry for its people.

2. Quebec should be a great venue for wind power.
Given the amount of hydro in their mix (97% if memory serves), they won't have much trouble integrating a big whack of wind power. They already have one of the greenest grids in the world.
