US Military Oil Consumption
* 144 million barrels per year
* 395 thousand barrels per day
* 15 gallons per day for every soldier in Iraq
* The US Military is the largest purchaser of oil in the world

We are at war in Iraq to gain control of their untapped oil reserves, which are the largest on earth that we know about. But after 5 years of war those fields are still untapped and the existing fields are in a state of ruin. It seems increasingly unlikely that Iraq will ever produce much oil as long as the US Military is occupying the country. Yet that occupation is consuming staggering amounts of oil every day that it continues, literally dominating the world market. Does there seem to be conundrum here?

If you want to know why you are paying 3 dollars per gallon at the pump, it's because you are competing with the F-16s, the troop transports, and the generators and air conditioners of US military forces fighting for Iraqui oil. Don't forget to pick up a twelve-pack....
