SEAT announces plans to become one of the world’s largest solar power generators.

Giant auto manufacturer SEAT has pledged to become one of the world’s largest solar power generators by powering a manufacturing plant with solar energy.

The factory, which is at Martorell (near Barcelona, Spain) aims to make use of Spain’s favourable sunny climate to generate 11.2 Gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity a year by the end of 2008.

The installation, which will use 8.5 megawatts (MW) of solar photovoltaic panels, will begin on the roof of SEAT’s corporate building in Martorell, as well as on the support structure of one of the finished vehicle parking lots.

2. Actually, one of my favorite aspects of the story is

that this is heavy industry running its operations on solar power.

They're planning to do exactly what many on this board have repeatedly stated is impossible.
