Call for 90% reduction in carbon emissions
Some of the largest institutional investors in the world yesterday called on the US Congress to introduce a mandatory national policy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% below 1990 levels by 2050.

So when are the governments and individuals going to wake up to reality??

1. Have U read any of the threads (both in GD and by Red Earth in E/E) re: NET NEGATIVE GHG emissions?
And we need to get to that point WELL before 2050 (Norway is aiming for Zero net GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions by 2030, and we probably need to move faster than that, and define possibility from what we need rather than the other way around).

4. The government and corporations are NEVER going to wake up.
As for individuals, well........

SOME are taking the lead, like the ladies at Riot for Austerity.

I am inspired. And ashamed that I cannot achieve their goals. But I keep working on doing better.

5. You took the words out from under my fingertips...
Absolutely correct. The coorporations and elites will be dragged kicking and screaming the whole way.

7. Just the corporations and the elites?
You and I alike, my friend, will be kicking and screaming; you and I alike.

And we'll be two of the survivors. Generally speaking, anyone with access to a computer will have an excellent shot of surviving.

The rest of them will die of starvation, disease, war, and sundry environmental "functional dislocations".

6. I always love 2050 talk.
Never take responsibility for your own actions when you can shove responsibility on your grandchildren.

It's just another elaborate lie.

My Governor made "by 2050" commitments all over the place. I looked it up. He'll be 102 when the "bill comes due."

The survivors in 2050, if there are any, may then be engaged in 2100 talk.
