In his other works, does he lay out his scenarious without editorializing?

2. I have only read his weekly blog...

and I hesitate to judge his fiction by his blog. He was an author for a long time before he picked up the peak-oil meme and ran with it. Regarding his blog, I think that he has a habit of conflating aesthetics with pragmatics, and it sometimes causes him to veer off into comments in the vein of "those damned kids and their baggy pants and rap music."

I like to imagine that he wouldn't indulge in that kind of thing for a novel. I just don't know, either way.
