AUSTRALIA has the know-how and the industrial capability to become a solar nation, but needs government and individuals to take action, the country's largest producer of solar energy products says.

BP Solar regional director Brooke Miller said Australia could install three gigawatts of peak energy, enough to provide solar power to more than one million homes and thousands of businesses.

She also told the third international Solar Cities Congress in Adelaide the drive towards a sustainable energy future would also produce more than 9000 new jobs and save four million tonnes of greenhouse gases each year.

Wouldn't being "on the verge" involve producing an exajoule?

Do you have any idea what the energy consumption of Australia is?

No?

Why am I not surprised?

You know, solar energy would seem a lot less ridiculous if its advocates wouldn't engage in so much stupid hype talk all of the time.

2. Every country is getting there. Really.
Clearly, some feel seriously threatened by a solar renaissance, but it's happening anyway.
Why do they feel so threatened?
Money, probably.....
