Market driving solar tech breakthroughs: researcher

A leading Australian researcher says the future of solar power in Australia will rely on the creation of markets for solar technologies.

The University of New South Wales School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering is collecting income from Asian companies which are using its research for solar power applications.

School head Dr Richard Cornish says the market is in Europe, where solar power production is encouraged.

"There is no subsidy to the price of buying the equipment, there is instead a high price mandated for solar that is exported from those systems back into the electricity grid," he said.
