Mayor, activists plan to show how everyone can live green

San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed will join community activists at a public meeting Monday night aimed at helping those who can't afford a Prius or solar roof get involved in his environmental initiatives.

PACT - People Acting in Community Together - wants to make Reed's "Green Vision" agenda "accessible to all residents," said leader Diana Wirt, and "not just for engineers."

PACT leaders said Reed's Green Vision, announced in October and unanimously endorsed by the city council, cannot be achieved without broad public participation, something that might be difficult for those who are struggling financially.

"One of the things we're concerned about is that it include everyone, not just those who can afford solar panels," Wirt said. "We think the success of this thing depends on that."
