Shipping bottlenecks may halt nuclear renaissance
http://www.guardian.co.uk/feedarticle?id=7341449

LONDON, Feb 27 (Reuters) - Nuclear power -- back in favour in some circles on concerns over global warming -- may face supply problems as worries over the safety of radioactive material limit its movement around the globe.

<snip>

"It is a very complex problem," said Bernard Monot, external relations vice president at the logistics department of the world's biggest maker of nuclear reactors, Areva.

"The shippers complain about the port authorities, who in turn hold the shipping lines responsible and everybody accuses heavy regulations," Monot told Reuters.

Shipping of uranium is complicated and the World Nuclear Transport Institute (WNTI), a grouping of 42 firms committed to ensure safe transport, is trying to find a solution as demand for radioactive material increases.

1. So it's not a shipping bottleneck so much as a fear bottleneck.

2. Indeed
Why was a topic wasted on such a side topic? This has nothing to do with anything unless it is a base to be used to launch Anti-nuke crap.

Can this topic be removed to clear the way for good topics such as technology advancements in solar, wind, and fuel cells?

3. Actually, I see nothing wrong with posting a topic like this one...
It's a story about the interaction between society and energy decisions. People don't like radiation, and they are afraid of it. And those attitudes are having a huge impact on the human conversation about what we're going to do about the energy and climate problems facing us.

I happen to think it's a mis-guided attitude, and the impact it's having is bad, but either way it's totally appropriate subject to bring up in an Environment/Energy forum.

4. You know I think this makes the case to split this forum.
For in my view I think it is wrong for such important topics to be bumped down by topics like this.

Interesting reading maybe, however, there are much more important topics out there in my view.
