The world has to get used to high oil prices |
|
http://www.elkhabar.com/quotidienFrEn/lire.php?idc=117&ida=99616El Khabar: Some theorists believe “oil peak” is inevitable, regarding current reserves and production, what do you think?
N.S: The idea of peak oil depletion is a reality, not fiction. The world has to be aware of the fact that oil is depletive… we are discovering less and less oil fields than before. We have discovered during the past few years only two or three big fields. Current supplies will not be able meeting increasing demands…there are new not expected data: merging states like China and India consume more and more. The increase rate is estimated to reach 11 to 15 %. There are two chocks: demand is growing quickly but offer is not going in line with it as expected.
El Khabar: What is the role of OPEC in all this?
N.S: OPEC cannot pursue increasing production as the majority of its members reached the maximum of their production capacity. Today there’s a feeling that these countries were betrayed as they were asked to increase production and at the same time warned from the collapse of their economy. OPEC has been a subject to intellectual terrorism. It’s abnormal to see exporter countries feeling guilty because of soaring prices. Current 100 USD oil prices are the same recorded in 1980 compared to power purchase of that era. However, the largest beneficiaries of this situation are industrial countries who cut more than 100% of the oil price as taxes from consumers.

I hate how this peak oil thing has gotten people off the main point- oil is not, was never a good idea. Make it go away!

4. I actually have studied viable solutions |
|
and there are plenty. I'm glad the rest of the world is running around like a chicken with it's head cut off talking about how we have to keep using oil and how culling 90% of the human population is a desirable thing.
Face it- we would have stopped using oil decades ago if we were being sane.

2. It's just the way things are going to be. |

With higher prices Big Oil will still make massive profits as cars become more fuel efficient.

6. You've got the right of it! |
|
I'm an American living in Denmark - gas costs over $8.00 US a gallon! (at least my car averages about 35-40 mpg, but still...) and thanks to the falling dollar, any time I have to transfer money here it's painful. About 6 years ago I got nearly 8 Danish crowns to the dollar, and today it's 4.9 to the dollar.

8. Of course they have. They keep ratcheting up the price then they drop it down a little |
|
Edited on Mon Mar-03-08 11:37 AM by Javaman
only to ratchet it up that much more next time around.
the temp on the price is now set to 3 bucks. it will be 3.50-4.00 bucks by the end of the year. but between now and then it will drop down to 2.75 or maybe 2.80, then it will begin the slow creep up again, then fall back down to 3.10 or 3.20, then creep back up again. then settle someplace around 3.50. (this is a nation average)
I fully expect by the end of the year the west coast will be paying on the order of 5 bucks a gallon.
Everyone sing along!!! boil that frog, hey! boil that frog, hey! boil that frog, hey! boil that frog, hey! boil that frog, hey! boil that frog, hey! boil that frog, hey! boil that frog, hey! boil that frog, hey!

9. "Some theorists believe “oil peak” is inevitable" |
|
And there are 'some theorists' that think the peaking of rate of extraction of a non-renewable resource is NOT inevitable?
