But I did like the History Channel's "Ice Road Truckers"... I couldn't imagine doing something so dangerous for any amount of money!

These shows about what people actually do for a living are more appealing to me than "Big Brother" or "American Idol".

7. LOL, I saw the show in the lineup and thought it was about rock muscians.

I didn't even bother checking it out since I only glanced at the title of the show.

8. I love working with wood.

And I like to harvest my own trees. It isn't too hard to find some excellent wood from sources that would otherwise be wasted. Trees that have to be removed for disease, or that are damaging a sidewalk.
You can contact the people who cut them down and give them a little money for delivering it to a saw mill (yellow pages). Have them slice it and dry it, then take it home and stack it in a nice dry place.
Walnut, cherry oak. All kinds of very beautiful wood that would otherwise have been ground into rough mulch for easy disposal.

9. It horrifies me to see all the wood burned to clear lots for new homes.

I would think that the branches might be tossed into the bonfire and the trunks sent to a sawmill -- but developers are usually in such a hurry they just burn it all (except some root balls that have too much dirt to burn -- they get hauled off).

Waste not, want not. And CO2 make not.

13. Wow, wishing "ill" on those who do a job to make a living.

I have a cousin who also cuts trees, but its not for clearing land or whatnot like in this show. He cuts down damaged trees in peoples yards or business areas that need tending to. My dad had him cut down a couple of pine trees in his yard because they were partially leaning towards the house, and their was no more room for roots to grow because they were standing next to a ditch.

14. Two comments:

1) From your post, your cousin is not doing anything like that show
so neither he nor other people "who do a job to make a living" are
relevent to my comment.

2) From the information on the show I've seen, it is not a documentary
or a historical programme but yet another dose of "reality" pap for
the morons who are glued to their TVs - complete with the usual
"added drama" (=fiction) and fifty-two hours of hype before each episode.

This programme is about a contest about who knocks down the most trees
and anyone who volunteers for a cynical ratings-grabbing series like that
deserves all the shit that they get.

If you thought my comments were directed at ordinary jobbers then I apologise
for not being clear: they were aimed at the wannabe "celebrity stars" of the
latest dose of cable opiate.

15. They do the same thing on Most Dangerous Catch on Discovery Channel

Though not as destructive as clearing lands.

I think I remember them saying that they do replant trees in those areas they clear, am I right? When I watched the show, the region looked like a place that housing projects wouldn't put houses.
