WATERBURY, Conn. -- The state is offering to help 12,000 customers of a Waterbury oil company that abruptly went out of business and left many people with pre-paid contracts in limbo.
Gov. M. Jodi Rell says state investigators will go to the headquarters of F. and S. Oil Company first thing on Monday to demand access to its business records.
She says the state will also seek a court-appointed receiver to audit the records, and go after any funds that may be missing. State officials will see if they can freeze the company's assets and return money to thousands of customers with pre-buy contracts.
Rell also says her office will work to set up oil deliveries by other companies to F. and S. customers to make sure no one goes without heat.
