Unusual cold storm moves into Arizona

A cold storm moved through the state Sunday, with record-low temperatures forecast in Phoenix, Flagstaff and Tucson.

Sunshine and higher temperatures are predicted to return Tuesday.

On Sunday, the system was expected to bring down the Valley's toasty temperatures to 60 degrees, much chillier than the average typical highs of the mid- to high 70s.

The record high for March 16 was 99 degrees, and set just last year, when Valley residents were slathering on sunscreen instead of bundling up. On Sunday, the Valley neared the record low-high temperature of 58 degrees, set back in 1952.

"It's pretty cold for this time of year," said Paul Iniguez, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Phoenix.

WOW! I can't remember another winter like this. Of course I was only 6 or 7 years old last time.

of some sort nearly every year.

4. The damned wind here in NM has been relentless over

the past several days. Wind like this drives you bonkers, even when you don't have to go out in it. Things are banging, the house is creaking and shaking, crap keeps getting blown into the doors and windows, and it's LOUD.

Anybody who waxes poetic over a NM spring is certifiable.

6. We've had WAAAYYYY more wind this past year than usual, IMHO.

The Santa Anas never really died out last spring, and they have continued through the winter and are still going at it. I moved into this apartment the end of Oct. and have not had a SINGLE WEEKEND free of wind or rain (mostly wind) where I could go out on my balcony and mount the reed screen onto the railing - TOO WINDY. Now this weekend it rained yesterday and the wind is howling today. ENOUGH ALREADY.

Of course during the week it's gorgeous. So with the sun up into the evening I just might be able to do the project on a weeknight.......
