GOLIAD – Private landowners can join Goliad County’s suit against a uranium mining company, which the county claims has contaminated drinking water.
The commissioners court Monday authorized attorney Jim Blackburn to amend its contract to allow individual landowners to join the county’s lawsuit against Uranium Energy Corp., with the provision that the landowners pay for themselves.
Earlier this month, Blackburn sent a notice of intent to sue to the company, which his required under federal statue. The actual lawsuit cannot be filed until 60 days after the intent to sue was filed.
The county plans to sue the company under the Safe Drinking Water Act.
