Subaru shows off electric car
Subaru of America Inc. showed off the automaker's R1e electric car Thursday, saying it's fun to drive while also being easy to charge and emissions free.

The R1e has a range of 50 miles and can post a top speed of 65 mph. It can charge to 80 percent capacity in 15 minutes using a dedicated charger, or be fully charged overnight with a regular domestic outlet, Tim Mahoney, Subaru of America's chief marketing officer, told reporters at the New York International Auto Show.

The vehicle's lithium-ion battery has an estimated life of 10 years or 100,000 miles, largely eliminating battery replacement problems, Mahoney said.

Looks cool. I wish it had just a little more range, but the charging times are reasonable.

Wonder how much it costs.

2. I'm waiting on a total electric
to charge up using my wind energy.

Take that, Big Oil!

But I need a 100-mile range.

11. You can get an Escape hybrid right now at...
your local Ford dealer. Bigger than a Forester, even, and much better mileage.

(Oops! I forgot, it's a Ford and according to DU only the Japanese can make hybrids, or anything else.)

6. Sometimes, I don't think you read your own posts.

"Subaru of America, Inc. will begin evaluating its R1e electric vehicle (EV) in the United States this summer in conjunction with the New York Power Authority (NYPA)." Begin evaluating? I'm so excited I could just...just...z-z-z-z

...

I wonder if I should read them.

9. It must suck to work for GM.
I want the car Subaru describes in their lit. It ain't available, and it won't be for awhile. See how that works? You don't have to take "sides", it just makes your POV sound more petty and insignificant than it already does.

btw I don't give a damn if you read my posts. I, however, am going to rebut your nonsense every chance I get because it's clear there are ulterior motives at work.

13. It's clear you see things that don't exist
As I've said before, I'm no great fan of GM. I've never even owned a GM product.

I may make an exception for the Volt.

5. It means nothing until it's on the market.
We've heard all kinds of great ideas, and nothing new has been released in years.

My hybrid is doing very nicely. But if I could get this R1e, it would be the perfect commuter vehicle for me.

7. Seems closer to the market than most.
I haven't seen video of a Chevy Volt driving the streets of Manhattan yet.

8. I missed that link.
And I certainly missed the part about it hitting the market now in Japan.

Thanks for the reply, I wouldn't have noticed that if I didn't have to go back and re-read it.

So now I have something *else* to save for. :-)

10. Beats walking or riding a bike 15 mi. to work through snow and ice.

Which, the way things are going, appears to be a distinct possibility within the next 12 months.

I have a feeling, just a feeling, that any carping over 'just a 50 mi. range' will fade away when faced with the alternative . .
