BLM Works Out Deal With San Bernardino County on Future Solar And Wind Power Generating Stations

(Best Syndication) San Bernardino CA – With the price of energy and gas on the rise, the number of applications for alternative energy projects in the high desert has increased substantially. Recent proposed projects close to inhabited areas have sparked community concern and prompted efforts by local public officials to instill some rationality.

San Bernardino First District Supervisor, Brad Mitzelfelt, has worked out an agreement with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management for a joint review of proposals. David Zook, spokesperson for the supervisor, told Best Syndication that the two government entities will “work together” on environmental reviews of these projects.

Mitzelfelt says there have been quite a few project proposals. “The BLM has received more than 100 applications for wind and solar projects. These have the potential to change the face of the Mojave Desert forever,” Mitzelfelt said.

Conflicting Interests

There are conflicting interests in every situation, and land-use is no different. This Memorandum of Understanding will allow the two parties to “work hand-in-hand” in drafting Environmental Impact Reports under state law and Environmental Impact Statements under federal law.
