http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/news/story?id=52077Siemens Energy has been awarded an order for a wind farm in the U.S. with a capacity of nearly 325 megawatts (MW). Siemens will supply 141 units of its 2.3-MW turbines for Phases 2 and 3 of the Biglow Canyon Wind Farm in Oregon. The deal was made with Portland General Electric Company (PGE).
This is the second major wind order from the Pacific Northwest that the company has received within one week. On Monday, March 31, Siemens announced an order for 130 wind turbines with a total capacity of close to 300 MW for projects in Washington State. The combined value of the two orders totals more than US $1.1 billion.
Phases 2 and 3 of PGE's Biglow Canyon Wind Farm will produce enough power to meet the electricity demand of approximately 100,000 households. Phase 2 of the project is scheduled to be operational in late 2009, and Phase 3 is expected to be online in late 2010.
