5.4 magnituge earthquake in the Midwest, did you feel it?

A 5.4 earthquake centered in southern Illinois has rocked people awake as far away as Chicago and Ohio.

People in the Cincinnati area reported their beds shook and dishes rattled.

The quake around 5:37 a.m. surprised residents unaccustomed to such a large Midwest quake.

It was centered six miles from West Salem, Illinois, which is about 230 miles south of Chicago.

Dispatcher Lucas Griswold at the county sheriff's office in West Salem says they got several calls about the earthquake but only reports of minor damage.

Griswold says he felt a lot of shaking himself and he called it "interesting."

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

2. USGS: nearly 23,000 people emailed them, said they felt it
USGS has a "did you feel it" map and I often view it to see the areas where the quakes are the strongest.

People in Ontario felt it too:

Also, I heard over the tv morning news that it was felt in 5 states.
The quake isn't far from the New Madrid Seismic zone which has produced some of the largest quakes ever in N. America. For a history of quakes from that area:
