Winergy Power Expands Off-Shore Wind Project Capacity to 940-MW
A similar project in this area failed due to the fact that it was sized too small for it to be economically viable. The smaller one was planned at a request of and using the parameters established by the contracting authority - Long Island Power Authority. This project is entrepreneurial in nature and scaled to be economically viable.

LCG, April 18, 2008--Winergy Power submitted a new proposal to increase the electric generating capacity from 300 MW to 940 MW for a planned, off-shore wind project to be located near Long Island. The proposed wind farm would be constructed in phases beginning in 2012, with completion planned in 2014.

The revised wind project includes 190 to 260 wind turbines located 12 to 15 miles off the south shore of Long Island. The original proposal included only 96 turbines that would be located further off shore. The revised proposal moves the interconnection with the transmission grid to a Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) substation in Melville that has greater capacity than the site initially proposed.
