The Oil Age Is OVER
Matt Savinar is making the updated edition of this book available until November 1st. The publication date for the (paper) book is Thanksgiving week of this year.

http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net/downloads.html

Need I remind you that if you find the book helpful or enlightening, you should consider making a PayPal donation (minimum $10 suggested) or buying a a copy of the actual book (I think it's $25+ P&H).

The e-book is free for military people -- send him a note at militarypdf@lifeaftertheoilcrash.net

It's a profoundly depressing read. Savinar doesn't pull any punches. But he covers the basic economic details better than most of the authors I've read.

1. I've been waiting for that book for awhile now!
Don't forget that DVD "The End of Suburbia". That's a really good one. I just gave it to the manager of our utilities company in my small town. Hope he likes it. He was obviously aware of the problem because he said he didn't want to be around in 20 years or so when everything starts happening.

Here's a link for it:

2. When Kerry said Nukes were the biggest problem...
(AND when Bush agreed) I shook my head. Dependance on oil is our biggest problem right now. If nukes get used, odds are, it will be over dwindling oil supplies.

My 2 cents.

3. I was thinking the same thing.

I was surprised to see that Kerry even increased our need to get off our dependence on foreign oil in 10 years now instead of 20. Maybe somebody has been talking to him. Hopefully, he will address the nuclear buildups and at the same time be attempting less dependence on foreign oil and finding alternatives.

on edit:changed my wording from lessened to increased

4. New website www.survivingpeakoil.com
invites submissions from the public at large (and publishes them on the web site) as to how we as families and communities could adapt and change our lifestyles and our local economies to meet the challenges of Peak Oil.

A Call for Action

This website is the result of the public response to the following article from Dale Allen Pfeiffer. In this article he quickly describes the critical problems which are soon to impact the lives of everyone on this planet. He attributed these problems to consumer capitalism and to power disparities. And he solicited advice on how people of limited means can cope with what is to come.

The ideas contained on this site are for practical implementation on a family or small community level. The object is to empower people to create a sustainable future for themselves, rather than lobbying governments and corporations, which are unlikely to seek effective and equitable solutions.

The material offered on this web site is a work in progress. We invite you, the readers, to offer advice and constructive criticism about all the material contained here, or make novel suggestions of your own. It is hoped that all of us, working together, propel humanity into an equitable and sustainable future where life and society can be a celebration of quality.

5. Sorry, BKL, but we've gotten it wrong!
I was looking at this other website - not the freeper one - and, if you wish to see some of the most amazing conclusions, take a look at the first 3 responses. (Caution: some pretty offensive stuff there.)

Here's a link if you want a laugh: http://www.libertypost.org/cgi-bin/readart.cgi?ArtNum=70049&Disp=1#C1

For those who don't wish to look, I'll give you a hint: the oil problem is all a result of illegal immigration. :eyes:

7. what a bunch of dickheads
Bulls**t. Much - if not most - of America's increased demand for fossil fuels in the past 30 years is attributable solely to a mass invasion by a horde of Third Worlders, most illegally.
Deport them and their offspring - and native-born Americans hardly will have to gravitate to a Third World lifestyle to cut total U.S. energy use.
Nobody says it - but mass invasion by Third Worlders even has caused worldwide use of fossil fuels to soar. Damn few Mexicans in Michoacan drive cars - but seemingly every illegal from Michoacan has his own car within six months of arriving here in North Carolina.

and if you thought that guy was bad look at his friend...

They also run 100W bulbs in every fixture and run the water heater at maximum temperature and run the air conditioning with the windows open. I have no idea if that's because the government helps them out financially or if that's because of stupidity, or a combination of both.

None of the "mexicans" i hang around even run an air conditioner, let alone run one with the windows open.

9. Good catch
For those who don't wish to look, I'll give you a hint: the oil problem is all a result of illegal immigration.

You hit that one right on the nailhead. Many of the same people are interested in 'peak oil' and 'immigration restriction'. Peak Oilers also engage in apocolyptic plans like hoarding vegetable seeds and moving to Idaho.

10. Peak oil is a wet dream for a lot of survivalists
They can load up with a lot of seeds, tinned food and guns before heading for the hills. Similarly, neo-Nazis can salivate over the prospect of large numbers of black, brown or yellow people being exterminated in some sort of global die off (as though Africans with a life expectancy of less than forty years were not already being decimated by disease and malnutrition). If the poor of the Third World do not snuff it quickly enough they can always be given a little encouragement by the arms industry to kill each other. The fact that most of the worlds population consume a fraction of the worlds fossil resources compared to the average American, European or Japanese is not going to prevent them being first in line to make the ultimate sacrifice. It is desperately sad how the serious study of this subject by authors like Deffeyes is being twisted and perverted. What is so stupid is that plotting the demise of your neighbors on the planet is unlikely to get you through any energy crash. Since increasing numbers of them have, or will be acquiring, nuclear weapons in the near future it is highly likely that they will take you with them to oblivion.

12. Not yet, but its close
more importantly, the end of the oil age will not come with the end of oil.
