Pinched at pump, consumers warm to energy plants
Depressing, mostly because it confirms that people still have a total misunderstanding about the orthogonality of electricity and motor fuel. I see this come up every time I talk with my father in law. He's always going on about how the American people have had enough of high fuel prices, and we're going to build Wind Turbines, and that'll stick it to OPEC!

(<-- new  proposal)

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Consumers are dropping some of their opposition to new energy construction projects as gasoline prices push past $4 a gallon and electricity prices accelerate, says a new survey released Monday.

The change of heart could spell less opposition to coal and nuclear plants. But the building of new oil refineries, stalled for years, is likely to continue to face stiff opposition, said the survey by RBC Capital Markets.

1. $5.00 per gallon by the time Bush/Cheney are booted from office in Jan 2009
....but how much will heating oil jump to this winter? Don't forget the across the board jump in hyperinflation caused by ever increasing crude oil prices over the coming six months as well. BushCo is causing a lot of damage to the U.S. economic structure that may take years to set right.

2. The falling price of oil after the energy crises in the 1970s caused nuclear plants to be cancelled
...or not ordered in the first place. It seemed that the public perception of an energy problem and needing new solutions just disappeared when there was "plenty of oil again". (Or so I read in an article.)

When old Bush was in the White House, he conspired with the Saudis to pump more oil than their OPEC quota to intentionally drive the price down. That was a way to weaken the Soviet economy, which was dependent upon oil exports.

3. I'd be interested in seeing that survey before I'd believe this news.
We all know how surveys get used to manipulate perceptions of what public opinion is.
Who is the survey company, RBC Capital Markets?
