"It Took My Breath Away" an excellent book about asbestos
I met the author, Andy Robbins, when I represented a group of Goodwill workers that had been contracted for janitorial work at a DOD facility in Indiana. The workers had been exposed to asbestos in a building being renovated. There are many buildings with asbestos, from schools to office buildings. Asbestos can be found in insulation and in the dry wall of older buildings.

Robbins traces the handling of asbestos that was "removed" from Market Square Arena (where the Indiana Pacers used to play) to the Bean Federal Building (where Robbins used to work). Robbins also discloses the location where the asbestos was dumped, near a residential neighborhood.

The Congress tried to pass legislation to protect the asbestos producers from lawsuits, can I mention Halliburton. Robbins discusses this and other issues in his book. Robbins is currently working on a book about genetically modified foods.

Book Description

This nonfiction manuscript guides its reader to discover how and why a workforce of 3,000 was exposed to toxins and just how easily an experience like theirs can happen to anyone. Peppered with useful facts and tips, it imparts invaluable information about testing, analyses, and safety precautions which, had they been readily available in this crisis, would have enabled those affected to react more effectively. It alerts the reader to the evolving health consequences which exposure victims face, and it leaves a chronicle for surviving family members to pursue litigation against the perpetrators of murders.

This work leads its reader through the intrigue, denials, and media spotlight of the Bean Center incident and then expands too address the impact of other local, national, and international concerns that affect us all.
