Most people would see this for the satire that it is -- and laugh. Especially given the level of tension here lately.

When a person becomes resentful and fanatical, their sense of humor decays. They become thin-skinned and read hostility into everything they see. They seldom laugh at all, and when they do laugh, it's through clenched teeth. The people who parade around women's medical centers on Saturday mornings, heckling the patients and photographing their rides' license plates, are like this.

Their entire world becomes a grim and serious place. At that point, not even a stack of smileys will be enough to let them know it's a joke.
