2. Oh, yeah, we're saved!
I'll just get rid of my Prius (that gets 46-50 MPG) right now!

Well, it would be funny, if it weren't tragic.

7. Well they gotta sell the damn things somehow.
They're probably sending them back to Detroit for some hokey retrofit so they can legally use the term "hybrid". Anything to get them off the lot.

31. Ford makes a legit hybrid Escape, a smallish SVU.
Gets better mileage if you do a lot of city driving. It's a for-real hybrid.

The Escalade probably uses the same technology.

Just keep producing those behemoth road dinosaurs and soon GM too will go the way of the dinosaurs

14. Please forgive the giant graph.
I tested several links from the wikipedia page. If it's really annoying and anyone can provide a smaller image link, I'll edit.

Note the CAFE standard (red) graph; dead flat from 1990 on. Yeah, peace and prosperity, right. Shortsighted, quick fix, corporate-bought, bullshit ever since since Carter is more like it, IMHO. Fuckers.

16. Too small?
I imported the large graph into Photobucket, and used the 'reduce to' size option on import. I used 320x240 - might be a bit too small though.

15. So instead of 10 mpg it gets 16?
Edited on Mon Jun-16-08 11:04 AM by kestrel91316
This sort of thinking is why GM will die a well-deserved death.

Is this the automotive version of "let them eat cake"???

21. Guilt reaction by GM Exec's.
When is the last time any of them drove a small car for any length of time?

GM builds a hybrid and it's for people that could care less except to show their friends at the country club - "See I'm GREEN".

They build an Electric Car and it's a $40k sports car - how many of those do they think they are going to sell the Volt to?

Then they will use their stupid marketing decisions as an excuse not to build anymore while more and more union workers pay the price of unemployment.

Toyota's got the market right - low $20k and you sell a million.

Build an EV for under $20k and for people that already have another car for long hauls - it would sell like hotcakes.

24. Sure, here.
http://www.cadillac.com/escaladehybrid/

Caveat: EPA estimates are often off by as much as 50%. I recall and article mentioned that a Jeep Liberty rated at 22 actually got 11 when tested by CU. No link for that, but it's out there.

27. I call bullshit on that claim.
In fact I'd go so far as to say that the old EPA estimates were more accurate. Every vehicle I have driven have gotten right at or better than the old estimates. I dont drive like a granny either.

Some of us who needs a truck would really like the 20+mpg. I know I would being that mine gets 16mpg.

29. Bu..bu..but...... GM HAS the technology to build a good EV
They already did it and destroyed it. Good range, good speed, and the final batteries developed for it outlasted the life of the car. What is keeping them from bringing it back?
