McCain Would Relax Drilling Ban
By STEPHEN POWER and ELIZABETH HOLMES
June 17, 2008; Page A6

WASHINGTON -- John McCain said a federal ban on offshore
oil and gas drilling should be relaxed and states should be
given greater incentives to permit exploration off their
coasts as a way of solving what he called the country's
"energy crisis."

The Republican presidential candidate told a news conference
that he would favor giving states "tangible financial rewards"
for granting offshore access, possibly including a greater
share of royalties paid by companies that drill for oil.

Sen. McCain's remarks, which he is expected to expand on in
a speech Tuesday, come as members of his party in Washington
are trying to project a united front as they attack Congress's
Democratic leaders over their opposition to allowing drilling
in many areas of the U.S.

That line of attack has been complicated by Sen. McCain's long
opposition to proposals by fellow Republicans and the Bush
administration to allow drilling in Alaska's Arctic National
Wildlife Refuge.

1. McCain knows the game is up on his supposed change game so he goes back to the old game.
It would take 50 years to get something effective online with these areas. And by that time the population will be over 9 billion and we will be in SEVERE trouble if we have not found an effective solution yet.

Thank god that McCain is trailing in the polls. America just can't take another 4 years.
